I show you how easy it is to make a tool post by your own.
When you understand the drawing here below, you can make it.
And here you can see how to make it.
This is the result of a couple of hours hard working. ;-)
So let’s start.
Take a dirty piece of steel. I used C45.
Use a 4 jaw chuck
Make the front clean
Make all the sides clean. The size is absolutely not important.
Place a center out of the middle.
place the Live Center in the middle of the center and clamp your product.Warning if you turn on your lathe you have a problem. Or you put a piece of material at the other side for balance or turn very slow.
Look also out for the jaw.
Drills a hole and turn it to a bigger hole.
In my case 45.02 mm
Place the Y ax on your Lathe and place it like this. And a milling cutter in the chuck.
and mill a slot in your piece of material.
Drill 3 or 4 holes in the upper side and makes screw threat in it.
Measure the height of your old tool post
And the diameter of the bold
Make a piece of steel the same length as the old tool post height + 3 mm
Drill a hole through with a diameter of the bold + 0.5 mm
make 2 flat pieces on the cylinder. The distance of the 2 parallel surfaces is the same as the groove in the old tool holder. This because the tool post can not turn by the major force of the tool.
I hope you can understand what i mean ;-)
Make a groove on the back side of the big groove and drill a hole with m8 to clamp the toolpost on the cilinder. Look to the drawing.
